On 4 July 2014, the Queensland Government announced that the master plan development application is approved.

The master plan approval allows for redevelopment for future legacy uses as a mixed-used community integrated with the existing Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, and delivery of the Commonwealth Games Village.

The project includes 1200 apartments and townhouses across 30 buildings, and will provide accommodation and services to 6500 athletes and officials during GC2018.

After GC2018, the Commonwealth Games Village will be transformed into the residential component of this new mixed-use, health and knowledge community.

The balance of the land will be held by the state for the future health and knowledge development from 2018.
