Infrastructure underpins every aspect of modern life and the Queensland Government is driving the adoption of smarter infrastructure to gain greater value from new and existing assets.

Striving to improve Queensland’s competitiveness while experiencing unprecedented population growth is placing increasing pressure on infrastructure and services, driving the need for smart and innovative approaches with better use of existing infrastructure.

Smart infrastructure improves user experience, reducing expenditure and enabling better decision-making and policy outcomes from the same or similar cost, environmental and spatial footprint.

Queensland companies are developing innovative and practical solutions that are ready to be applied to the infrastructure sector. The Queensland Government is unearthing and showcasing our homegrown heroes and innovators so that we may benefit from their products and services.

The smarter infrastructure agenda is being actively addressed by the Queensland Government through initiatives including:

  • the establishment of the Infrastructure Innovation Taskforce
  • release of the Smarter Infrastructure for Queensland Discussion Paper
  • hosting the Smarter Infrastructure for Queensland summit.

Smarter Infrastructure for Queensland summit

As disruption transforms other Queensland sectors, infrastructure has remained largely unchanged. If we are to compete globally and service our growing state, we all have a role to play in driving innovation.

To assist in the cross pollination of our technology and infrastructure sectors, the Queensland Government is hosting the Smarter Infrastructure for Queensland summit on Tuesday 17 October 2017.

The summit will bring together experts and thought leaders from the digital, innovation and infrastructure sectors, government and academia, to challenge existing barriers and identify pathways for smarter infrastructure opportunities.

The summit supports key implementation actions from the State Infrastructure Plan including:

  • Infrastructure Innovation Taskforce
  • Deputy Premier’s Infrastructure Innovation Challenge
  • development and implementation of strategic infrastructure documents.
