Racing is a way of life for people living in country and regional Queensland.
The racing industry plays an important role in local communities by bringing the community together and strengthening towns and cities as tourist destinations.
The department is investing $70 million over four years through a Country Racing Package to help secure the future of the sport at its grass roots. Racing also gives back to the community. The recent Birdsville Races raised over $50,000 to help drought affected Queensland farmers and communities.
Events like the Battle of the Bush series which brought 16 bush gallopers from eight country regions to Brisbane help to shine the spotlight on the regions.
Roll up, roll up
Regional communities are abuzz when the annual show comes to town.
Whether it’s winning the baking blue ribbon, the rides in sideshow alley or the skills and thrills on show in the main arena, the local show contributes to the cultural, social and economic fabric of our regional communities.
Local shows draw a crowd and provide the community a chance to catch up.
The department contributes over $2 million to support 130 show societies and associations across Queensland with the Show Societies Grants Program.
